The new tariff structure allows Tigo subscribers to call fixed lines at the cheapest tariffs on the market.
The company said that new charges are applicable to calls made specifically to Austria, Belgium, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland and Ireland. They also include Italy, Luxemburg, Malta, Monaco, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Turkey and the UK.
"This promotion is applicable to mobile calls made to fixed lines in Europe where a subscriber will be charged only Rwf30 per minute to various destinations across the European continent. We understand that your friends and family are all over the world so not only are our subscribers able to call Europe at unbeatable rates but can also call US, Canada, India and China for only Rwf35 per minute,” she noted.
Tigo has the cheapest tariffs on calls to the USA, Canada, India and China. Its rival MTN Rwanda unveiled a promotion on mobile and fixed lines on peak hours at Rwf0.75 per second (Rwf45 per minute), happy hour Rwf0.15 per sec (Rwf9 per minute) and on weekends at Rwf0.55 per second.
Telecommunication operators in Rwanda charge the highest calling rates and interconnection fees within the EAC region.
