Twenty five senior police officers were presented with certificates on Thursday after completing a four-week leadership training course.

After handing them their certificates, the British Ambassador to Rwanda, Nicholas Cannon told the officers to uphold their status as role models to the community.
The training was funded by the British government.

 Cannon, who was a police officer for six years before joining the diplomatic corps, advised the officers to cultivate confidence within the public.

"The public you serve has huge great expectations from you’. T the police are identified with leadership the world over,” Cannon said.

He said continued that even junior officers should be persons of integrity in their communities, and reemphasisedzing British government’s commitment by the British government to continue supporting th Rwanda National Police in their drive to offer quality services to the country.

Rwanda Police Commissioner General, Andrew Rwigamba said that such courses are towill reinforce capacity of the force.

"Such courses have helped in changing police operations in the country,” Rwigamba said.
 He also urged officers to forge a strong bond with the general public, saying that it will help in winning public confidence. "And since we have trained you, you will have no excuse for poor performance.”

He appealed to the officers to expand the knowledge they had acquired by opening for themselves opportunities to research, study and get more information beyond classrooms.
