RWANDA paid the price for poor blocking as Tunisia cruised to a 3-1 set win on day one of the 2011 CAVB Africa Women Nations Championship in Nairobi, Kenya.

The team marched into the contest knowing that a good start is what they needed to boost their chances of reaching the semi-final but a combination of poor serves and blocks put them on the back foot.

Tunisia raced to a two-set lead 25-13, 25-16 and although Rwanda fought back in the third set 25-17, the North Africans finished off the job by winning the fourth set 25-14.

After the match, a livid Jean Marie Nsengiyumva conceded that the team had a bad day at the office and needed to regroup fast ahead of today’s clash with Senegal.

"We just couldn’t get going. The blocking, serving and reception were all poor,” the Rwandan coach said, before adding, "But we need to move on and focus on tomorrow (today)’s game against Senegal.”

Senegal also had a rough outing; losing in straight set (3-0) 25-15, 25-20, and 25-22 against defending champions Algeria. Tunisia, who also thrashed Botswana 3-1 (25-18, 25-12, 18-25, 25-18), now tops the group (B) with four points.

In Group A, six-time champions Kenya made their intentions clear after hammering Nigeria in straight sets 3-0 (25-11, 25-15, 25-15).
