This holiday has been a cocktail of activity for several children. From visiting friends, to playing games and helping parents, some children dedicated two days of their time to learn how to use their creative skills.

From Monday August 15 to 16, 2011, Uburanga Arts Studio, Kimihurura hosted 17 children to learn art skills from four professional artists. This was at the ‘Children of Uburanga Workshop’.

Jean Bosco Bakunzi, the founder of Uburanga Arts Studio, said they organise workshops every holiday in order to teach children art and crafts.

"We want kids to have creative skills and have fun at the same time. This holiday, they are learning how to design and print T-Shirts. During previous holidays, children learnt how to design postcards, paint and make jewelry,” said Bakunzi.

Most of the children come from Gisimba orphanage, and Bakunzi believes that at Uburanga, "art can be used to heal people physically, mentally and emotionally.”

The workshop that ends today, Tuesday August 16, was sponsored by the Belgian Embassy and Uburanga Arts Studio, and has left a bunch of children with smiles on their faces.
