KIMIHURURA - President Paul Kagame yesterday said that the country’s ongoing development journey requires the efforts, commitment and the right mindset from Rwandans.

The Head of State made the remarks during the swearing-in ceremony of a new Senator and three MPs at the Parliamentary buildings.

The President noted that while there are challenges along the way, the most important thing is for the people to have the will and dedication to tackle them and even work harder for further progress.

The lawmakers who took oath are Senator Teddy Gacinya and three MPs: Zeno Mutimura, Marie Josée Kankera and Amiel Ngabo Semahundo.

President Kagame pointed out that the new legislators have been serving the country in various public and individual capacities, but now their new duties demand more from them.

He called on the newly sworn-in lawmakers to continue their selfless service to the country and its people.

Senator Gacinya replaces Aloysea Inyumba who was appointed the Minister of Gender and Family Promotion.

President Kagame urged the legislators to work hand-in-hand with their colleagues to fulfil the demands of the people, noting that as lawmakers their job is to work with others to serve the interests of the Rwandan people.

The President told the MPs to continue from where their predecessors stopped, while building on what they had been doing prior to their new appointments.

He then welcomed them to the House, pledging cooperation from other organs of the State.

Mutimura who, until 2009, was Rwanda’s Ambassador to Tanzania, replaces Alfred Gasana who was on Tuesday appointed the new head of internal security in the National Intelligence and Security Services (NISS).

Kankera replaces the late Aimable Nibishaka who passed away last month, while Semahundo replaces Alexandre Ashinzwuwera who lost his parliamentary seat for misconduct after he allegedly physically assaulted his young brother.
