Wealth declaration is a sign of accountability
Editor,Iwish to express my concern over reports from the Office of the Ombudsman indicting that some civil servants are not complying with the wealth declaration law. It has been reported that more than 300 failed to declare their wealth on time, despite repeated pleas from the office of Ombudsman. This is unfortunate given the fact that the civil servants se are supposed to be role models.

I think it is high time parliament gave the Ombudsman the legal powers to prosecute defaulters.
This will promote the culture of accountability. I suspect that those who fail to declare their wealth are worried about explaining how they acquired it.
