MUSANZE - Ruhengeri Institute of Higher Education, (INES), has offered scholarships to 75 students who completed senior six, to pursue a three-year advanced diploma course in Land Survey at the institution.

More than 1,000 students applied and sat the screening exam.

According to the Vice Rector, Rev. Fr. Dr. Fabien Hagenimana, INES introduced the course last year to fill the existing gap of land surveyors and planners in the country.

"There is a growing housing and urbanisation industry, the policy of land use consolidation, (and) all these require surveyors. This program is not offered in other universities, which is why we decided to introduce it,” Hagenimana said.

More than 150 students got the scholarship last year.

Hagenimana appealed to the Ministry of Education to consider sending government-sponsored students to INES, saying they have everything, including competent lecturers and infrastructure to accommodate more students.

"If private institutions can offer courses that are not available in public institutions, then the government should consider sending state-sponsored students to such colleges,’’ said Hagenimana.
