RWANDA open their 2011 Afrobasket campaign against Central African Republic later today in Antananarivo, Madagascar.
Vaceslav Kavedzija knows that a strong start will put the team in a good position ahead of more tricky Group D ties against Tunisia and Togo.
"The opening match is always crucial so we are going out for a win,” he said.
In 2009, the two sides met in Libya and CAR won the contest 85-64.
Hosts Madagascar are drawn in Group A alongside Mozambique, Nigeria and Mali; defending champions Angola, Chad, Morocco and Senegal make up Group B while Group C pits Ivory Coast against South Africa, Cameroon and Egypt.
Ivory Coast and Nigeria opened their campaigns with compelling victories yesterday. The 2009 runner-up won in all four quarters 27-08, 33-10, 29-19 and 18-16 on their way to a gigantic win of 105-53 in Group C. In Group A, Nigeria hammered Mali 84-59.
While the side that captures gold will clinch a spot at the London Games, the teams that finish second and third will book places in the 12-team FIBA Olympic Qualifying tournament where three other places will be up for grabs.
