KIMIHURURA - The visiting Sierra Leone Chief Justice, Umu Hawa Tejan Jalloh, yesterday paid a courtesy call on the Minister of Justice, Tharcisse Karugarama at his office in Kimihurura.

Jalloh is leading a delegation to study the operations of Commercial Courts so as to learn from Rwanda’s best practices.

Addressing the media after the meeting, Jalloh said she was impressed by the reforms and developments the country had registered, especially in the justice sector.

"After what the country went through in 1994, it’s quite impressive what the government has so far done in restoring the rule of law,” she said.

"Back home, there was a complete breakdown of the law, so the steps taken here can help us progress to the level Rwanda has attained”.

The Chief Justice commended government for entrusting women with various national responsibilities, saying it gives them the chance to contribute towards national development.

Commenting on the Commercial Courts, she said: "We want to protect our investors and create a convenient business environment, the way it has been done here.”

Karugarama disclosed that they discussed the country’s judiciary reforms and achievements. He added that Rwanda and Sierra Leone would continue with the mutual cooperation.
