16 suspected criminals netted in Muhanga swoop

MUHANGA- Security officials in Muhanga District have arrested 16 people, including four women, suspected of involvement in various illegal and criminal offences.The suspects were arrested during a security operation in the wee-hours of August 15 in Nyarucyamo, Murambi and Binunga villages.

MUHANGA- Security officials in Muhanga District have arrested 16 people, including four women, suspected of involvement in various illegal and criminal offences.

The suspects were arrested during a security operation in the wee-hours of August 15 in Nyarucyamo, Murambi and Binunga villages.

During the operation, two men, Ernest Nyandwi 25, and Jean Claude Nshimiyimana 23, were found in possession of army uniforms.

The suspects said the uniforms belonged to a Corporal in the 69th Battalion of the Rwanda Defence Forces currently based in the troubled Sudanese region of Darfur.

Others arrested were traders with over 100 illegal packets of plastic bags and illicit brew.

The operation also netted three people without proper identification.

Police spokesman Theos Badege, said the operations would continue, adding that they are intended at curbing criminal cases and illegal activities in the area.

"This is intended to prevent crimes and maintain security in the community. The involvement of residents and local leaders is very profound in identifying such criminal activities,” Badege said.
