Alpha Community Academy opens

The State Minister in charge of Primary and Secondary Education, Dr Mathias Harebamungu, yesterday, opened the doors of Alpha Community Academy in Nyarugunga Sector, Kicukiro District. The primary school that was founded by Rev. Winnie Muvunyi, cost Rwf 500m and currently has 230 students.

The State Minister in charge of Primary and Secondary Education, Dr Mathias Harebamungu, yesterday, opened the doors of Alpha Community Academy in Nyarugunga Sector, Kicukiro District.

The primary school that was founded by Rev. Winnie Muvunyi, cost Rwf 500m and currently has 230 students.

While presiding over the event, the Minister expressed appreciation to all stakeholders who made the project a success.

"The mobilization to come up with a project that will enable children to learn is preparing for the welfare of the entire nation,” Harebamungu said.

"This contributes highly to the achievement of the government’s programs in giving children a chance to have good education.”

The Minister promised that through his Ministry, the school will be supported to ensure it offers the best and required education standard.

During the event, there was a tour and inspection of the school’s facilities including the school library and a computer lab, among others.

In her speech, Muvunyi said that although it had been a struggle ever since the beginning of the project, there was determination, commitment and sacrifice amongst members.

"We started in 2005, with only 6 students but the number has been increasing as more facilities have been put in place,” Muvunyi said.

She also thanked government saying there has been a good working relationship with authorities at various levels.

As a way of reaching out to needy pupils, the founder said the school is currently giving free education to 25 children.
