Remera Buffaloes won a record fifth consecutive league title after trouncing rivals Sharks in the final match of the season played yesterday at Rugunga grounds.

Buffaloes hit Sharks 36-6 to finish the Inyange industries sponsored 15s league with 35 points. Vincent Kamali made two tries while Lucien Bikamba and Benjamin Makombe had a try each.

Bikamba made a one drop goal and played a vital role as he combined with Ivan Makmot to score penalty and a conversion.

It was a heated game with Sharks mounting a very quick defence but Buffaloes forwards just had too much in their tanks for their opponents. Fans cheered ‘underdog’ Sharks and went silent when Buffalo took control.

Sharks finished second on the national league standings with 27 points while Lion de Fer secured third post with Gorilla finishing bottom of this season’s league standings.

The national rugby federation technical director Gerald Nsenga was full of praise of local clubs following their drastic improvement in their performances from last season.

"There has been a lot of improvement from all teams. Unlike in previous seasons were we had teams from Kigali dominating the game, teams from upcountry like Muhanga and Kamonyi despite not doing so well, have played a big role in the promotion of the sport upcountry,” said Nsenga.
