The man, who cannot be named to protect the identity of the minor, allegedly raped the daughter during the absence of his wife.
The suspect, a resident of Karubisha village, cellule of Nkomangwa in Munyiginya Sector ,was arrested when the daughter took a complaint to local leaders.
The suspect is currently held at Rwamagana Police station, pending a medical report and further investigations.
According to Superintendent Alex Rutabayiru, Rwamagana District Police Commander (DPC), the man had become unruly and constantly harassed his wife.
The DPC warned any potential rapist that the police will not spare any single culprit.
"There is no explanation needed and what we are waiting for is the formality involving a medical report. The child and sisters confirmed the rape...we want such people to be punished heavily according to the law ,” he said.
The Mayor of the district, Neheme Uwimana, castigated the incident and urged parents to be vigilant and expose such criminals.
‘We can’t accept such monsters in our communities. It is thus upon us to combat rape. The suspect will be tried as per the law,” he said.
The mother of the girl said that her husband had turned into a drunkard who smoked marijuana daily.
"The rape marks the end of him and me...I have had enough of the man. He threatened to kill me and has now done it to my child. I can’t explain what I have seen,” she said.
