The Secretary General of the East African Community, Dr. Richard Sezibera, this week, urged Kenya’s Ambassadors and High Commissioners to actively project the image of the East African Community as part of their roles in their missions abroad.

Dr. Sezibera was addressing Kenya’s Ambassadors and High Commissioners at their 16th Biennial Conference in Mombasa, Kenya on the topic, The Future of East African Integration: Priorities over the Next Five Years.

He noted that the envoys were at the frontline of projecting the image, marketing and promoting the region within the fast evolving, increasingly complex and competitive world order.

"I have every confidence that you will play your part with vigour and valour thus embracing the great cause and movement of our time to unleash the full potential of the emerging economic powerhouse that is the EAC region,” said Dr. Sezibera.

The Secretary General hailed Kenya’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs for acknowledging the significance of the East African Community by including regional integration as an item of the agenda of the Biennial Conference which was convened to update the country’s diplomats on critical issues that they would be expected to represent in their missions abroad.

Dr. Sezibera informed the diplomats that the East African Community had a priority programme of Co-operation and Co-ordination of Foreign Policy among its Partner States.

"In this respect, by your role as Ambassadors of Kenya, we count you also as ambassadors of the East African Community,” he said.
