Plot: the movie is based on Ntozake Shange’s Obie Award-winning play exploring the plight of black women who make the leap from stage to screen. It is a classic tale with touching moments and a real story line.

Verdict: Despite the very fancy cast assembled for this adaptation of the 1975 play, there is too much melodrama that drowns the real plot and essence of the story. If you are keen on details, the movie is a total disaster. But, for the less attentive, it makes for a dramatic watch.
