The High Representative of the African Union (AU), Gen. Sekouba Konate, yesterday paid a courtesy call on Prime Minister Bernard Makuza at his office in Kimihurura, Kigali. Konate was in the country to award medals to 538 Rwanda Defence Force (RDF) officials of the 67th Infantry Battalion that served in the African Union Mission in Sudan (AMIS) from October 2005 until April 2006.

Konate was in the country to award medals to 538 Rwanda Defence Force (RDF) officials of the 67th Infantry Battalion that served in the African Union Mission in Sudan (AMIS) from October 2005 until April 2006.
Speaking to journalists after the meeting, Konate said he was impressed by the developments taking place in Rwanda.
"I thank President Paul Kagame and his government for developing this country within a short period of time,” he said.
The General acknowledged the role of the Rwanda Patriotic Army (RPA) now Rwanda Defence Forces (RDF) in liberating the country, as well as stopping the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi.
The Prime Minister disclosed that Konate expressed interested in strengthening the partnership with RDF and other institutions.
Makuza commended Konate for playing a key role in the transition process in Guinea Bissau, where Ambassador Joseph Mutaboba, a Rwandan diplomat is the Special Representative of the UN Secretary General.
