African prosecutors who are in the country to attend the sixth annual conference for the Africa Prosecutors Association, yesterday, called on President Paul Kagame and requested him to lobby support for their association.

Speaking after the meeting, the president of the Africa Prosecutors Association, Olivia Imalwa, said that her delegation is requesting African Presidents to support them financially. "We introduced ourselves to the President and informed him of what the association stands for,” said Imalwa, who is also the Chief Prosecutor of Namibia.

She added that prosecution institutions in Africa are part of the executive as well as public servants and, therefore, everything they do is on behalf of the State.

"It is on this note that we need financial resources which can only come from our governments, which is why we need the involvement of the  Heads of State.”"We got a positive response from Rwanda.

As a member state of the African Union, we requested President Kagame to take it up to other leaders,” she said.

The Rwandan Prosecutor General, Martin Ngoga said that the country took the opportunity to present its position paper on the response of African countries to arrest and prosecute genocide fugitives.
