Rwanda’s Ambassador and Permanent Representative to the United Nations (UN) and International Organisations in Geneva, Switzerland, Solina Nyirahabimana, this week, presented her letters of credence.

The newly appointed envoy presented her credentials to Kassym Jomart Tokayev, the Director General of the UN Office in Geneva.

During the presentation, she said that Rwanda has made significant progress to achieve her vision and as well as the Millennium Development Goals (MDG’s) despite some challenges.

Nyirahabimana commended the partnership that exists between Rwanda and the UN - "Delivering as One UN" in implementing national priorities with the aim of improving the lives of Rwandans.

She expressed gratitude towards the continued teamwork between the UN Office in Geneva and the Permanent Mission of Rwanda in Geneva, especially during the annual ceremony to commemorate the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi.

The Rwandan envoy in Geneva assured Tokayev of her readiness and commitment to work to further strengthen the cooperation between the UN and the Government of Rwanda.  

Tokayev hailed Rwanda’s efforts to improve its socio-economic development, especially in the areas of Information Communication Technology.

He said that under the leadership of the President Paul Kagame, Rwanda is now recognised at the international level due to its active participation in major international high-level meetings.

Tokayev pledged to continue strengthening the mutual cooperation between Rwanda and the UN.

Nyirahabimana, a former Minister in the President’s Office, was appointed to head the Geneva mission replacing Venantie Sebudandi, who was transferred to Stockholm as Ambassador to the Nordic Countries.
