RWAMAGANA-Rwamagana District Hospital has finally managed to install a cooler system in its new mortuary.

The building and installation of the cooling system, was funded by Lux Development at a cost of over Rwf 70 million.

The hospital’s Director, Dr. Jean Claude Ndagijimana, yesterday told The New Times that the government had intervened to construct the mortuary.

"The mortuary is one area that we had been lacking for quite long time and it is now fully operational and we are satisfied. We have installed a new cooling system,” he said.

"It will be the provincial referral hospital and we must be ready to handle unclaimed bodies for some time. It's an ongoing process that will no doubt deliver results soon”.

Gricha Lepointe, Lux Development country representative, says his organisation was pleased to fund the construction.

"I encourage other NGOs to support the hospital…a mortuary is an important social area that gives room to families to prepare decent burials of their beloved ones,” he said, pledging more support to the hospital.

Rwamagana Hospital serves a population of an estimated 30,000 people.
