THIS year’s Primus Cup will feature eight teams as opposed to four, Times Sport can exclusively reveal.
The pre-season tournament has been expanded to eight teams and is scheduled to run from September 8-11, according to Ferwafa’s Chief Executive Officer Jules Kalisa.
"The whole idea of increasing the number of participating teams is to make the tournament more competitive and exciting,” Kalisa said.
"But we have not yet made it official because we need to confirm with the clubs.”
The changes mean that on top of champions APR, Kiyovu, Police and Etincelles; La Jeunesse, AS Kigali, Rayon Sport and Marines all stand a chance of featuring in the four-day event.
Bralirwa’s Marketing Manager Aline Aselot also revealed that the company had increased the sponsorship package to Rwf 17m from Rwf 15m but prize money would not change.
"The Budget increased slightly because of more logistics that come with the increased number but the prizes remain the same,” Aselot said.
The winners will take home Rwf 5m, while the runners-up and the third placed team will walk away with Rwf 3m and Rwf 1m respectively.
Kiyovu won last year’s crown after defeating Rayon 2-1 in the finals.
