RNOC Secretary General Parfait Busabizwa told Times Sport yesterday that the committee has started preparations to welcome the IOC boss who be visiting Rwanda for the very first time.
"We are doing our very best to ensure that Rogge’s visit is a success. Plans are underway and we hope everything will go as planned,” added Busabizwa.
According to Busabizwa, Rogge will arrive in the country on September 1. He will then visit Kigali memorial site, hold a brief meeting with the Sports Minister, attend the closing seminar of the IOC Sport and Peace seminar due in Kigali towards the end of this month.
Rogge is scheduled to hold a press conference later in the afternoon before being hosted to a dinner in the evening where he will get an opportunity to talk to sports federations and sponsors in Rwanda.
Rogge, who arrives in Rwanda after attending the 13th World Athletics Championships in Daegu, South Korea will proceed to Burundi the following day where he is expected to visit the new ITF regional development center managed by Rwanda’s Thierry Ntwali.
Rogge, an orthopedic surgeon by profession, is the eighth IOC president and was elected on July 16, 2001 at the 112th IOC Session in Moscow.
