The Executive Director, Africa Group I, of the World Bank, Hassan Ahmed Taha, has commended Rwanda for being one of best African countries to implement the global institution’s projects.

He made the remarks yesterday while speaking to journalists after meeting the Minister of Finance and Economic Planning, John Rwangombwa, at his office.

Rwanda is one of the countries under Hassan Taha’s jurisdiction at the World Bank Board of the Directors.

"I am happy with Rwanda because it is one of the best performers in the African region in terms of implementing World Bank projects and also in aid coordination,” he said.

Taha added that he is in the country to assess the World Bank‘s portfolio performance as well as chart ways to enhance the performance.

"The World Bank is supporting various projects in Rwanda in the areas of agriculture and energy and we are happy with the performance of these projects,” he noted.

The World Bank official stated that he would present Rwanda’s performance to the bank’s Board of Directors, stating that the country is one of the states delivering better than the average of all other countries.

Rwangombwa said that Hassan Taha’s visit to Rwanda is very important towards promoting the relationship between the institution and the country.

"He is new in his position, and in order for him to represent our interests at the World Bank’s Board of Directors, he had to first know the status of the bank’s portfolio in our country,” Rwangombwa added.

The Minister stressed that, the World Bank official was impressed by the way Rwanda is performing in terms of coordinating aid and implementing the bank’s activities.

"We also discussed how we can work together to further implement the activities of the World Bank, especially in the fields of agriculture and energy and as well look for more finances to channel in those areas,” he observed.
