I wish to commend members of the Rwanda Defence Forces for their generous action to help poor families in Rutsiro District, by donating 41 cows.

Our institutions, NGOs and individual Rwandans should emulate the gesture. By donating cows, the RDF has demonstrated a a high level of responsibility and passion for the people of Rwanda.

Once all families own cows, this will highly contribute to poverty alleviation in the long run and increase life expectancy.

However, the district should put in place mechanisms to deter beneficiaries from selling their cows.

Reports in the past, indicated that some Rwandans have sold their mosquito nets to neighbouring countries cheaply.

Furthermore, the Ministy of Agriculture has in the past complained after reports emerged that fertilisers meant for farmers were later resold.
