Nduba Sector came second, with 88.70% and was awarded with Rwf 50,000 plus a certificate.

GASABO - The Mayor of Gasabo District, Willy Ndizeye, on Friday, awarded the best performing sectors in the district in terms development, under the Imihigo assessment programme.

Bumbogo Sector, which took first position with 94.26 %, a grand distinction, was awarded with Rwf 100,000 along with a certificate. Nduba Sector came second, with 88.70% and was awarded with Rwf 50,000 plus a certificate.

The mayor said that the best sectors were awarded to motivate them to even work harder and encourage those with satisfactory performance to improve to the level of grand distinction.

"We award the sectors as a way of encouraging them to work harder. This instils the zeal in the other sectors to also put in more efforts and stimulate a healthy competition amongst them for the development of the district and its residents,” Ndizeye said.

He urged the Executive Secretaries, together with the residents of the different sectors, to put in a lot more effort to accelerate further progress towards development in the district.

Ndizeye said that the overall performance of the district improved tremendously with 66% of the sectors getting a grand distinction, 26% distinction and 0.6% with satisfaction.

He stated that the district improved from 21st to the 12th position out of the 30 districts. He, however, noted that there is need to enforce the use of bio-gas in the sectors and improve sanitation as well.

The mayor also called for improved nutrition and standards of living. He hailed Kibagabaga area for starting a campaign that teaches the residents about nutrition in order to curb the problem of malnutrition.

John Marie Vianney Ntaganzwa, the Executive Secretary of Bumbogo Sector, which has topped the district three consecutive years, attributed their performance to teamwork between leaders and the area residents.

"We mobilize residents and encourage them to join hands with us which they have done. Our standards of living have thus improved, our roads are okay, we have built schools and lots of other developments have taken place,”Ntanganzwa said.

Patricia Murakatete, the only female Executive Secretary in the district, noted that Gasabo had improved significantly due to the hardworking leadership, residents’ participation and transparency.
