MUHANGA- The Adventist Development and Relief Agency (ADRA) Wednesday launched a new project to economically empower youth in two districts of the Southern Province.

The Rwf 90 million project-‘Youth for Unity’ will run for two years. It is set to benefit over 700 youth in 12 sectors of Kamonyi and Muhanga districts.

Claude Sebashi the Muhanga District Director of Development, and ADRA Country Director, Jeffrey Kern, officially launched the project at a function attended by local leaders from both districts.

Osée Ndahiro, the project coordinator, said that the essence of the project is to enable the youth become key players in unity and reconciliation efforts.

The beneficiaries, it was noted, will be empowered through agricultural and livestock activities.

Ndahiro noted that the project will initially focus on six pilot sectors of Muhanga and Kamonyi districts.

Kern revealed that the agency will be able to expand its activities throughout the 30 districts of the country in the near future.

"The empowerment of youth is the future of a nation and the youth are vital source of positive change. If this project is supported, it will subsequently contribute to unity, social transformation and thus, a better future,” he said.
