KAMPALA - Forty-four Rwandan youth are among more than 2,000 youth delegates from Arab and African countries attending the Afro-Arab Youth Festival, taking place at Speke Resort Munyonyo, Kampala in Uganda.

"Participating in this event is a great opportunity for us as youth to share ideas and learn from each other,” said Emmanuel Musoni, the head of the Rwandan delegation.

"Our country has an international reputation in good governance and development, and we think we have the potential to contribute to the development of this organisation”.

The festival was officially opened on Wednesday, by Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni. The festival is discussing social, political and economic issues which affect youth in member countries.

These challenges include unemployment, terrorism and the HIV/Aids pandemic.
On Wednesday, Rwandan delegates gave a presentation on peace and conflict resolution, highlighting the role of youth in the country’s recovery process.

Organised under the theme: "Youth in Peace and Development Partnership,” the meeting is the second of its kind since the creation of the organisation in 2003.

The first such meeting took place in Sudan in 2004.

The festival activities are mainly comprised of conferences, debates, sports, tours, exhibitions, music, drama, and a peace match to UN offices in Kampala.
