KIGALI - The Ugandan First Lady, Janet Museveni, has reaffirmed that Genocide should never happen again anywhere.She said this, yesterday, after visiting Kigali Genocide Memorial Centre to pay tribute to the over 250, 000 victims laid to rest at the site.

"This was a tragedy and it was not a tragedy for Rwanda only but for the whole of Africa and my prayer is that this will never ever happen again, not in Rwanda, not in any part of the world,” said Mrs Museveni, who is also Minister for Karamoja.

Mrs. Museveni who became vividly emotional after touring the site and watching gruesome genocide-related pictures, said that Rwandans must know that anybody who says that they have any reason to divide them is an enemy.

"They must know that all Africans are the same people and the whole of Africa is the same, so how can the Rwandans be different?” she added.

At the Memorial Centre, Mrs. Museveni was accompanied by Aloisea Inyumba, Minister of Gender and Family Promotion, Fidele Ndayisaba, Mayor of Kigali City, and Radegonde Ndejuru, Director General, Imbuto Foundation, among others.

The First Lady was in the country with her husband, President Yoweri Museveni, who, yesterday, concluded a four-day state visit to Rwanda.

She stated that what happened in Rwanda was an atrocity afflicted by a leader and a government on their own people.

"Genocide happened and I hope the young generation truly learns from this and ensures that it will never happen again,” she asserted.

Mrs. Museveni also visited the Heroes Grounds near the Amahoro National Stadium to pay tribute to the heroes buried there.
