The former Director General of the National Land Centre (NLC), Dr Emmanuel Nkurunziza, over the weekend, officially took over his new office as head of the Rwanda National Resources Authority (RNRA).

The RNRA is a merger of three former public institutions, namely, the Forestry and Ecosystem Management Natural Resources Authority (IWRM), the National Land Centre (NLC), and the Geology and Mining Authority (OGMR).

During the handover ceremony, each former director generals of the disbanded agencies highlighted the progress their respective institutions had registered as well as what they had drawn as their future plans.

"As we come together, it is a great opportunity that our efforts be directed towards a common goal, serving effectively to hit our expectations,” Nkurunziza told the employees of three merged institutions.

He also assured them that they would not lose their jobs as a result of the merger saying the number of employees required for the new body was big.

Nkurunziza told reporters that the merger would not only bring about efficiency but will also help cut operational costs. "We shall have some departments combined, including ICT and public relations units,” he said.
