The Prime Minister has said the government is convinced that the private sector is capable of driving the growth and eventual transformation of the economy.

While opening the 14th International Trade Fair at Gikondo expo grounds, on Friday, the premier noted that the country meets International Market standards, something that shows Rwanda is on track to become a private sector led economy.

The private sector was initially very small and with little impact on the country’s economy.

However, different initiatives by government, importantly the liberalization of the economy, and the efforts of the private sector have seen a steady increase in Private sector investments in the country.

Deliberate efforts to attract foreign investors are paying off and many multinational companies have set up operations in Rwanda and are having a desired impact.

At the same time, local investors have gained foothold, setting up small and medium enterprises as a result of reforms aimed at easing doing business in the country. Political will on the part of the national leadership has made implementation of the reforms possible.

It is imperative, that the Private sector continues to work to improve so as to remain competitive, locally and internationally. With all these initiatives, the private sector will play a vital role in growth and economic transformation.
