A four-man Kigali Golf Club contingent headed by club president Ezra Bunyenyezi traveled to Uganda this morning to be part of the Uganda Golf Club (UGC) Centennial celebrations.

The KGC Quartet that also includes Andrew Nkwandi, John Museminali and Henry Rugamba traveled aboard a Rwandair Express Flight.

"The club’s ex-presidents (Nkwandi and Museminali), current president Bunyenyezi and PRO Rugamba will be part of the celebrations. They will represent the club,” the KGC captain Marcel Byusa said.  According to one of the event organizers Andrew Muguluma, the celebrations are marking UGC’s 100th anniversary.

Meanwhile, Rwanda’s golf ace Emmanuel Ruterana is one of the professional golfers competing in the celebrations’ pro-category that started yesterday.

Professionals, who played 18-holes yesterday, will play 36-holes today before winding up with 18-holes tomorrow.

Speaking to Times Sport from Uganda, Ruterana who was kept out of last week’s Tusker Kenya Open championship due to a fever expects a tough competition.

"Most of the lads have an edge over me because I haven’t played competitive golf in a while,” the 26-year-old said.

The BCR sponsored golfer has also out the Ugandan trio of Deo Akope, Godfrey Mande and Steven Birungi as his major contenders at the 72-hole competition.

"These guys are fresh from the Kenya Open and that alone gives them an edge over the rest,” Ruterana realized. Shs 6 million (approx. Frw 2 million) is at stake for the top golfers.

On top of the pro category, UGC has also lined up five other categories; junior, senior, ladies, corporate and a grand Centennial Golf Competition that is also expected to be the climax of the celebrations.
