Having come back from the Diaspora several years ago, I have been trying to convince my friends who remained abroad to make that bold step and return to Gasabo land. Some of my friends have been sceptical. But when the Chicago convention hit high gears, I began to receive calls from abroad.
Having come back from the Diaspora several years ago, I have been trying to convince my friends who remained abroad to make that bold step and return to Gasabo land. Some of my friends have been sceptical.
But when the Chicago convention hit high gears, I began to receive calls from abroad.
People out there were able to download YouTube videos to witness what has been happening in our beloved country. One of my friends called Gasore, decided to pack up and return.
But due to some miscommunication at the airline desk, my buddy ended up in another place altogether!
Gasore was so excited about returning to Rwanda. When he was at the Airport abroad, he gave me a call and alerted me to pick him up from Kanombe. So, Gasore approached the Sales agent.
She proceeded to make the necessary bookings and issued the air ticket for Rwanda! Thereafter, Gasore walked around the duty free shops buying packets of chocolate.
He also bought 2 bottles of red wine. He joined the queue and prepared to board the jumbo jet.
The trip was very long and tiring for Gasore. How he wished he was seated in the business class! After what seemed to take ages, the aircraft touched down.
A great feeling of joy and nostalgia engulfed Gasore’s whole body. He looked out of the window and started imagining what Diaspoman looked like after more than 6 years.
He started preparing himself on how he should drop on his knees and plant a welcome kiss on the Kigali airport tarmac.
But life is not as good as it appears to be! Gasore had a rude awakening when he approached the Immigration officials.
They gave him the most charming smile and gave him this announcement "You are most welcome to Angola!” WHAT??? Wasn’t this Kigali? What had happened? How had Gasore ended up in Angola instead of Rwanda?
Then the reality hit him. The lousy sales agent had booked Gasore for Luanda not Rwanda! Gasore should have emphasized the City Kigali and not Rwanda.
Phew! As I waited impatiently at the Kigali international airport, I received Gasore’s long distance call announcing to me that he was in Angola. He would then start the process of getting re-routed to Kigali. Welcome back home Gasore!
