KARONGI- Scores of students were stranded in Karongi District after the closure of the second school term due to a transport hitch on the Karongi-Kigali route.
Three travel agencies that ply the route were short of vehicles to cope with the influx of students who broke off for their school holidays.
"I have been here since morning and even the little hope of getting a vehicle to take me back home is fading away,” Pierre Mugabo, a student heading to Nyagatare said.
Diane Munyeri, a senior two student at Groupe Scolaire de Gishyita lamented that she had spent a night at a classmate’s house because the few available buses were fully booked.
However, an official from one of the travel agencies, Capital Express, reassured the students that they would do their best to ensure that every student reaches their destination.
"We are determined to work until very late in the evening if that’s what it takes for the students to get to their homes,” the official claimed.
