THE Indian community of Rwanda (Indorwa) will mark their country’s 65th Independence with sports and cultural activities, according to the Association’s chairman, Dinesh Kalyani.

The Independence celebrations, which will take place on August 15 at Utexrwa, will be preceded by sports competitions that include badminton and cricket, while cultural activities will include drawing and art by young children at the Indian Chef restaurant.

According to Kalyani, the members of the association will also donation blood at Utexrwa football ground next Saturday as part of the independence activities.

There are 1,500 Indians living in Rwanda, working in different fields including mining, education and energy sectors.

"This country (Rwanda) is one of the most peaceful in the world and there are various investment opportunities here that foreigners including Indians find attractive,” noted Kalyani.

The biggest beneficiary of Indians’ presence in Rwanda in terms of sports is the game of cricket, where they (Indians) have four clubs playing in the national cricket league. They include; Kigali, Challengers, Strikers and Indorwa cricket clubs respectively.
