MUHANGA – the National Unity and Reconciliation Commission has donated Rwf6.4million to the association of genocide survivor students at the Catholic Institute of Kabgayi (ICK)

The donation handed over, on Tuesday, by Laurence Mukayiranga, a NURC official, is meant to support the over 150 members of the association of survivor students (AERG-ICK).

The AERG-ICK coordinator, Leonard Gachumbitsi, revealed that the funds will be used to start various income generating projects that include modern decoration service, rental sound systems apart from boosting their dance troupe.

"The income from the projects will be accounted for and used to address particular problems faced by our members,” Gachumbitsi said.

On behalf of NURC, Mukayiranga said that the support was a fulfillment of the promise made by the commission.

"The donation is part of our continued support for student survivors and we would like to see them grow towards self sustainability,” Mukayiranga said.

ICK institution official, Prisca Mukayibanda, said that the AERG-ICK students will be guided and supported in managing the funds so as to ensure a brighter future for the beneficiaries.

The beneficiaries hailed the commission for its support and pledged to be agents of change, growth and promotion of unity and reconciliation within the students’ community.
