FRANCE - based pugilist Jean Morris Bikorimana is set to return to Kigali to increase his preparations for the upcoming All Africa Games due in Maputo, Mozambique.

According to national team head coach Gashugi Kananura, Bikorimana, who has been training in France courtesy of the international Olympic solidarity fund sponsorship, will return to Kigali because he is getting insufficient preparations.

"Bikorimana will come back home to continue his preparations for Maputo Games. He is not training well as we would like at the moment because most of his colleagues have returned to their respective countries,” Gashugi told Times Sport on Monday.

"We are in talks with the Olympic committee to find means of enabling him to return to Kigali as soon as possible to train with his team mates,” added Gashugi.

The veteran trainer, who also doubles as the boxing federation technical director, noted that Bikorimana needs to work harder if he’s going to be in contention for a medal at the All Africa Games and the World boxing championship in due in Azerbjain in October.

Bikorimana will use the two championships to search for minimum qualifications to enable him compete in next year’s London Olympic Games.

Meanwhile, only four slots are available on the national team for the upcoming Games. Ten boxers are currently in camp.

Apart from boxing, Rwanda will send participants from basketball, volleyball, beach volleyball, athletics, boxing, tennis, table tennis, karate, swimming, cycling and sport for the disabled.
