The national football team captain Haruna Niyonzima has said his team will put up a do-or-die show ahead of the 2023 CHAN qualifier against Ethiopia in Tanzania at the Benjamin Mkapa Stadium.

The veteran midfielder said the team is in good shape and confidence is high in the group and vowed to eliminate Ethiopia in the two-legged qualifier.

"Our aim is to make the country proud. We know we are going to face a tough team but we have prepared well for the game and we will go there and give our best,” Niyonzima said.

Rwanda has won four games against Ethiopia, drawn five, and lost five in all competitions since April 26, 1981.

The country hopes to make its fifth appearance in Africa’s second biggest international tournament, which is reserved for only players featuring in their respective domestic leagues.

Algeria will organize the eighth edition from January 8 to January 31, 2023.
