MUHANGA - A Kigali-bound trailer overturned at Kivumu junction along the Kigali- Butare highway, leaving its two occupants with serious injuries.

According to eyewitnesses, the Mercedes Benz Reg. No RAA 577C truck swerved off the road after the driver lost control.

The truck driver and conductor only identified as Dallaus and Nsabyimana, respectively, were seriously injured as their truck; loaded with over 14 tonnes of sand rolled into a valley.

They were immediately rescued by residents and security officials, and rushed to Kabgayi Hospital.

This is the second accident involving a trailer in the same area. Geoffrey Kiama, a Kenyan national died last Thursday after a cargo truck he was travelling in lost control and veered off the road before it overturned.

On the same day, an accident involving a coaster commuter bus and three people riding on a bicycle took place along the Muhanga- Kibuye highway. The three sustained serious injuries.

On Sunday morning, an Isuzu Fuso truck loaded with charcoal lost control and rammed into an abandoned church building at Kivumu junction on the Kigali-Butare highway.

The church was abandoned for the past three years due to similar accidents.
