KIMIHURURA - The Lower Chamber of Parliament will, on Wednesday, once again, pore over the bill governing religious communities, after the Senate successfully examined it.

Once passed, it will put in place clear guidelines on issues such as registration, freedom of worship, and modalities of conflict resolution within or between religious communities.

Article 4 of the bill - Limitations to freedom of worship - notes that freedom to practice one’s religion or belief may be limited to protect security, order and public health and morals or the fundamental rights and freedoms of others.

According to the draft law, the construction of buildings for worship shall conform to the standards of housing and settlement and land use.

The bill, in Article 45, hints at home worship.

It says that members of a religious community may hold meetings or worship in homes but this shall not disrupt public order.

The chamber of deputies will also examine bills on local and international non-governmental organisations, among other things.

Meanwhile, Senators are scheduled, this Monday, to examine a report on doing business in Rwanda, by the Committee on Economic Development and Finance.

On Thursday, government officials will brief both chambers on matters relating to government activities in business and investment.
