RWANDA duo of Mohammed Rafiki and Pascal Karekezi will participate in the Basketball without Borders program which will be held in South Africa from September 1-4.

Rafiki and Karekezi feature for the local basketball league clubs APR and Espoir basketball clubs respectively.

According to the local basketball federation boss Lt. Eric Kalisa, the pair was picked because of their skills and believes they will improvement their career once they take part in the NBA-sanctioned program.

Basketball without Borders (BWB) is the NBA and FIBA’s global basketball development and community outreach program that unites young basketball players to promote the sport and encourage positive social change in the areas of education, health, and wellness.

The top youth players 19 and under from Asia, Europe, Latin America and Africa, as selected by the NBA, FIBA and participating federations, will train under NBA players and coaches and compete against their peers.

Selected NBA players will partner with local community groups to lead daily life-skills sessions focusing on the importance of education, leadership, character development, health and wellness.

To promote friendship and diversity, the campers are divided into teams without regard to race and nationality.

NBA Global Ambassador Dikembe Mutombo leads a group of NBA legends for Basketball without Borders Africa, which returns to Johannesburg for the eighth time this year after being held in Senegal last year.
