Cyclists set for Tour de Janeiro

THE National cycling team will depart to Brazil on Monday for the Tour de Janeiro, with team coach Jonathan Boyer optimistic of their chances despite it being their debut appearance.Boyer has made one change from the team that took part in this year’s Kwita Izina competition.

THE National cycling team will depart to Brazil on Monday for the Tour de Janeiro, with team coach Jonathan Boyer optimistic of their chances despite it being their debut appearance.

Boyer has made one change from the team that took part in this year’s Kwita Izina competition. Jean de dieu Rafiki replaces Innocent Uwamungu in the six-man team which also has Nicodem Habiyambere, Gasore Hategeka, Emmanuel Rudahunga, Obed Ruvogera, and Nathan Byukusenge.

Over 150 cyclists are expected to grace the 783km race which is registered on the UCI (International Cycling Union) calendar.

"The riders have been doing intensive training for the last four weeks and i think they have a good chance,”Boyer said.The five stage race will run from July 27-31.
