DESPITE setting a new personal best of 34 minutes, 40 seconds and 81 microseconds, Claudette Mukasakindi still fell short of a podium slot in Wednesday’s 10,000m of the on-going 5th World Military Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

Kenya claimed a 1-2 finish with Doris Changeiywo winning gold (33:38.93) and her compatriot Lineth Chepkurui taking silver (33:39.13). Bahrain’s Salah Kareema settled for bronze after clocking 33:45:34, four seconds clear of Mukasakindi.

Today, Mukasakindi will try to make amends when she competes in the 5000m.  Eric Sebahire remains a doubt for the men’s 5000m after missing the qualifiers which were held on Wednesday.

On Sunday, two-time Olympian Epiphanie Nyirabarame finished 6th in the full marathon.

The trio is using the games to prepare for the forthcoming All Africa Games in Maputo, Mozambique.
