THE local athletics federation (RAF) is embroiled in accusations and counter accusations over mismanagement of funds during this year’s Kigali International Marathon.
Sources close to the federation revealed that RAF’s executive committee comprising of the president Gerald Ntare, 1st Vice President Louis Rurangirwa, 2nd Vice President Dieudonné Disi and two other officials whose names could not be established by press time, decided to provisionally suspend the federation’s Secretary General Constantin Twajamahoro.
The executive claims that Twajamahoro embezzled funds meant for the marathon.
Times Sport could not get further details into the saga as RAF president Ntare refused to talk to this reporter when contacted to verify on the allegations while Rurangirwa and Disi could not be reached for a comment as their mobile phones were switched off.
However, Twajamahoro refuted the allegations and instead accused his boss of bad leadership while also stating that ‘all is not well in the body.’
"What you need to know is that there have been lots of problems and the tension is high,” he said.
It is not the first time the issue of embezzlement of Kigali International marathon funds has surfaced.
In 2009, Apollinaire Munyangoga, the then Secretary General of the federation, was sacked after failing to account for Rwf 700,000.
