SOUTHERN PROVINVCE

HUYE – The Photographing exercise for national identity cards [IDs] that kicked off in Kigali City last month is expected to begin tomorrow March 12, in the Southern Province.

Addressing local leaders in Huye last week, Augustine Kampayana, an official of the Ministry of Local Government, in charge of territorial administration and good governance, said that the exercise will start in Kamonyi district.

He said: "The photographing exercise starts in Kamonyi district and will end in Nyamagabe. Each of the eight districts in the Province has been allocated four days for the exercise."

Kampayana urged local leaders to mobilise residents so that the activity is carried out on time. He said that two sites have been designated in every Sector for the exercise.

According to Kampayana, like it was done in Kigali, residents are required to contribute Frw500 to have the new national identity card.

Over 9 million Rwandans are expected to participate in the photographing exercise, which will continue in the Western, Northern and end in the Easter Province later this year.

The new electronic national identity cards are expected to be issued in September this year, according to authorities.
