FRENCH Ligue 1 champions have joined the race to sign Junior Wasps defender Jean Marie Rusingizandekwe, Times Sport understands.
The youngster, who plies his trade in Belgium with FC Marines’ reserve side, was one of the team’s outstanding players in last month’s Fifa U-17 World Cup in Mexico.
Former Amavubi skipper Désiré Mbonabucya, who is Rusingizandekwe’s agent and uncle, yesterday revealed that the youngster, who is also a target for Belgian sides Club Brugge and Standard de Liege, is closely being tracked by Lille.
"He has received offers from three clubs and we believe he will sign for one of them,” Mbonabucya said.
If Rusingizandekwe joins Lille, he will become the second Rwandan to play in France’s top division after fellow Junior Wasps’ teammate Bon Fils Kabanda, who plays for AC Nancy.
Amavubi striker Elias Uzamukunda plays for third division side AS Cannes.
In a related development, Rwanda’s second division side SEC academy is set to loan out six Junior Wasps stars. Ibrahim Itangishaka, Eric Nsabimana, Eugene Habyarimana, Steven Ntaribi, Heritier Turatsinze and Shadadi Nsengayire have been linked to three Primus league cubs in Rayon Sport, Kiyovu and Mukura.
