Rwandan youth studying in various countries across the globe are in the country for a two-week civic education programme, commonly  known as Itorero ry’Igihugu, through which they will acquaint themselves with the country’s development programmes.

This is a very commendable initiative, because, these students, most of whom are in universities, are the future leaders, both in the public and the private sector.

They, therefore, need regular update on the country’s progress and vision as laid out in the Economic Development for Poverty Reduction Strategy and the vision 2020.

Itorero is a very ideal platform to promote the culture of patriotism amongst the youth, who otherwise run the risk of losing touch as they reside outside the country.

It is, therefore, imperative that the young Rwandans, who participate in this important programme, take the lessons learned seriously, and use the acquired knowledge to contribute to the development of the country.

Rwanda has been a victim of misinformation and propaganda perpetrated by fugitives and their supporters. With a patriotic and well informed youth living in the same countries, where these falsehoods are manufactured, those who make a living out of distorting the facts about Rwanda will fizzle out as they simply won’t be equal to the challenge that the youthful Rwandans, equipped with the truth, will present.
