The two-day conference will attract hundreds of women entrepreneurs and exhibitors, government officials as well as members of the East African Legislative Assembly (EALA).
The EAC Head of Corporate Communications and Public Affairs, Owora Richard Othieno said, yesterday, that the conference will provide a forum for businesswomen to discuss regional business opportunities, showcase their products and network in cross border trade and investment.
"People always think that doing business is only for men, and that is why we thought of bringing together women entrepreneurs to explore the opportunities and challenges of the EAC Common market protocol and other integration stages,” he said in an interview.
The conference will also advocate for financial inclusion of women entrepreneurs through the creation of a regional microfinance scheme for women development.
As part of efforts geared towards closer networking, the women will brainstorm on the process of establishment of an East African Women Entrepreneurs Association.
According to a provisional program of the conference, Deputy UN Secretary General Dr. Rose Migiro will deliver the keynote address at the opening session.
