GATSIBO-Equipment has been made available to farmers in Gatsibo district as part of measures to kick-start the mechanisation process within the agricultural sector.
The irrigation and cultivation equipment was handed over by the Ministry of Agriculture.
"These machinery will help farmers to grow their crops extensively and timely,” Christian Mugisha, who is in charge of the equipment, observed.
According to Mugisha, the machinery will either be sold or rented out, depending on the capacity of the farmers.
The cost for hire has been set at Rwf100, 000 per hectare on a virgin land and Rwf50, 000 per hectare on used land, he explained.
Apollo Rutagarama, a farmer in Gitoki sector told The New Times that the new machinery would help them increase production.
"These machines are faster and can cultivate several hectares of land. We shall never face problems of limited time,” the farmer said.
