I appeal to police to carry out thorough investigations into the trade in counterfeit flash disks. The practice is rampant on Kigali streets. Many people have complained in the past, but nothing has been been done thus far.

Last week, I bought a flash disk from a hawker near the Ministry of Education headquarters in Kacyiru. He asked me to call him to get a replacement,  should I find a problem with the device.

A few days later, I saved a 2,000 word document in the device but could save no more than that. I realised I had been duped. When I called the hawker, who had identified himself as Robert, his phone was off.

My warning goes to unsuspecting Rwandans who might fall for the same trap. It is better to buy such devices directly from dealers. Police should crackdown on those trading in counterfeit products because many people continue to lose their money.
