MUHANGA- Illegal structures will not be tolerated in Muhanga centre, district officials have announced.

Speaking, last week, at a meeting with the business community at Gitarama stadium, the Vice Mayor for Economic affairs, François Uhagaze, said construction activities which do not adhere to the district master plan will be demolished.

"All illegal structures will be razed and residents are required to seek authorisation to construct or rehabilitate their houses.

This should be in accordance to the district master plan and vision,” Uhagaze said. A couple of houses and structure were demolished in the area, this week.

The meeting also discussed issues of security, taxation, installation of security lights on commercial buildings and levying of fines for failure to comply with district policies.

Some traders were, this week slapped with fines for flouting an order that seeks for installation of security lights at all business premises.

But the traders complained that some fines were selectively administered, while umuganda programs were not communicated on time resulting in a low turn-out.

"Some of the issues can be addressed if the law is enforced uniformly and some mistakes corrected,” one trader decried.
