THE National University of Rwanda (NUR) has named two athletes to feature in the Summer World University Games (WUGs) taking place in Shenzhen, China from August 12-20.Ignace Nsazimana will compete in sprint races (100m and 200m) while Jean Baptista Uwilingiyimana who compete in 5000m and 10000m categories.

However, the pair’s involvement is subject to availability of funds.
"We are unable to foot the team’s expenses but we are relying on the world university body, FISU to avail us with the means,” NUR’s head of sports and culture Albert Kayiranga revealed.
Normally, FISU foots flight and accommodation costs for universities that are unable to meet their team’s expenses on the African, Asian and South American continents.
The Summer World University Games will feature 23 sports, including athletics, swimming, football, badminton and golf.
The Universidad is an international multi-sport event, organised for university athletes by the International University Sports Federation (FISU).
Rwanda has never won silverware at the World University Games which take place every two years.
In a related development, an inter-university football tournament kicks off this weekend in Kigali.
The event is attracting eight universities and colleges in Rwanda.
The confirmed universities include NUR, KIE, Umutara Polytechnic, ISAE Busogo, Tumba College of Education, Kicukiro College of Technology, School of Finance and Banking (SFB) and Rukara College of Education respectively.
